Feel the splendor of this prestigious bronze sculpture, The Thinker by Rodin
Depicted as a nude man deep in thought, in a unique pose with his hand holding his chin, right elbow on left knee, and a crouched position that lets the Thinker, leaning forward, observe the circles of Hell while meditating on his work.
In 1880, the French sculptor Auguste Rodin was commissioned to adorn the tympanum of the Gates of Hell, a monumental decorative door for the future museum of Fine Arts (Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris), which was to be adorned with bas-reliefs inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy.
A historical piece from a monument of French art
The Thinker was ultimately displayed alone in 1888, becoming a standalone, independent sculpture, and one of the most famous works in the world.
The Italian Renaissance, and Michelangelo in particular (portrait of Lorenzo de' Medici), are highlighted in this sculpture, which has become a universal symbol of human thought and concentration. Everyone will recognize themselves before this masterpiece of the Poet in meditation, or even in the midst of a dilemma.
